As in any family business, you have your family work in the business. That’s why I have had 5 kids, so they could come and work in the business. And at one time or another, each of my family members have worked in the business. This is my eldest daughter, Gretchen.
In high school and a couple of summers in college, Gretchen worked on the crews to learn the business. Working with Russ on the trimming and maintenance crew and on construction crews doing plantings and installations during other summers. One of her ‘this is what I did on summer vacation’ reports included a picture of her driving the skid steer.
Although not in the business now, Gretchen is in the environmental stewardship business, as the national field manager for Moms Clean Air Force at Environmental Defense Fund.
