The Steiningers built this summer home on the grounds of Chautauqua to escape the summer heat of Houston, TX. Describing their desires for summer color and a place to relax and enjoy, we developed a cottagey garden to take advantage of the sun on the front of the house. We incorporated some loose screening to the road and backyard neighbors with a little stronger screening to the driveway adjacent.

The patio was a bit of a challenge with grade so we designed the patio to be flush with the screened porch and 2 risers down from the main house. Using a piece of barn foundation stone played off of the stone on the house. Pervious paving in the drive, walk and patio kept things green around the house and is approved by the Chautauqua Institution.

The overall affect is one that Karen and Frank can enjoy for themselves, their friends and their family!
