The Emerald Ash Borer is here in Erie. It attacks the native green ash, Fraxinus pennsylvanica, and is devastating. Below is a chart that shows how it has been moving towards are area and some of the symptoms on your trees. You may notice dead branches in the tops of your ash tree or unusual sucker growth from the roots or the trunk with larger than normal leaves. You could see fissures or splits in the bark.

Woodpeckers often feed on the borers and they may be a sign that you have an infestation. If you have a key tree that you are concerned about, call and talk to Dave Marino, our certified arborist and landscape architect to discuss options to treat for prevention or potential cure for borer infestation.
